Behind the music.

About Andy

Andy Edwards is a British drummer, educator and multi-instrumentalist whose career spans rock, progressive music, jazz and fusion. He came to prominence playing with Robert Plant’s Priory of Brion, performing more than 100 concerts across Europe before going on to record and tour with IQ and become a founding member of Frost*.

His recordings include Frost*’s Milliontown and Experiments in Mass Appeal, IQ’s Frequency and Magenta’s The Twenty Seven Club. His musical interests extend beyond progressive rock, with projects including improvised collaborations with bassist Steve Lawson, recordings with guitarist Phi Yaan-Zek and the electronic jazz-funk group Kundabuffa.

Alongside performing and recording, Andy has spent many years teaching and presenting drum clinics. His career has included leading the music course at Kidderminster College and appearing at major drum events alongside players including Thomas Lang, Steve Smith and Simon Phillips.

Andy also brings his musical knowledge, strong opinions and sense of humour to YouTube. His channel explores jazz, fusion, progressive rock and the wider world of music through album discussions, interviews and conversations about creativity. Guests have included Billy Cobham, Simon Phillips and Narada Michael Walden. In Andy’s own, rather more modest description, he’s “now making a fool of himself on YouTube”.

I love the Speed Test. Being able to measure where I’m at and track my progress is inspiring—it makes me want to practise more. The polyrhythm tools help me break down what’s going on, and the gig and setlist features are the quickest way I’ve found to prepare for a gig.
