Meet the PolyNome team

In this post, I want to give you a bit of a behind-the-scenes tour of the PolyNome headquarters and staff so you know what goes into creating an app.

Let me introduce the team…

Joe Crabtree: Design, coding, marketing, website, etc.

And the PolyNome office…

office

Actually, it’s a mobile office.

Sometimes it’s on the kitchen table. Other times it’s a dressing room, or the back of a band van.

Essentially, it’s just me and my laptop wherever and whenever I have time to work on it.

I’m telling you this so you know you can reach out to me if you have a problem.

PolyNome is my baby, and I want it to be the best it can be.

If there’s a bug in it, you can be guaranteed that I want to know about it and I want to squash it.

Indie Developers

I guess I’m an “indie developer”.  I think that probably applies to a lot of iOS developers.

I remember having an issue with an App I owned and I emailed the support address. I honestly didn’t expect to get a reply.

Within a couple of hours, the developer had got back to me and told me he’d fix my issue in the next build. I was stunned!

Now I’m on the other side, I know exactly what it’s like.

People who email me with problems or suggestions are surprised that I get back to them so soon. That’s usually because I’m at my laptop working on PolyNome when the email comes in. It’s how I’ve spent most of my waking hours for the last 7 years!

Why I Need You

This is the development cycle of PolyNome…

  1. I spend a month or two working on bug fixes and implementing new features that I’m excited about.
  2. I get beta testers to try out the new features and try and break them.
  3. I submit the new version to Apple and it gets released.

I love to spend my time making the app as good as it can be – fixing bugs, implementing exciting new features, etc. But in order for it to be a viable way to spend my time I need people to know it exists.

You Can Make A Difference

If you love PolyNome, anything you can do to help spread the word will mean I’ll be able to continue to spend my time making it a better app for you.

Reviews on the App Store really help.

  1. It warms my heart! Seriously, every good review that comes in for PolyNome makes it feel like it’s something worth spending my time on.
  2. It really helps other people to make a decision. Reviews are what most people go off when deciding which app is right for them.

Those two factors mean that your review, however short, contributes to the future development of PolyNome.

Don’t leave a bad review…for anyone’s app…

This is a plea on my part for all indie developers.

If you experience a problem with an App, contact the developer before leaving a bad review.

If they ignore you (or tell you where to go), then go ahead and leave the worst review you can. But first, give them a chance to figure out what the problem is and fix it for you.

For example, a recent release had a bug that had gone unnoticed by beta testers. One person left a 1 star review complaining about this bug, but made no attempt to get in touch with me to let me know. Of course I wouldn’t have released the update if I’d known about the bug, and as soon as I found out about it I fixed it and pushed an update. The 1 star review stayed – even though it’s no longer relevant.

Be A Part Of PolyNome’s Future

Here’s the favour I want to ask…

If you have problems or issues with PolyNome please Contact Me and let me know what they are.

I will get right back to you and endeavour to fix every bug.

If you have a feature suggestion I will consider it thoroughly and let you know whether or not it’s a possibility.

If you enjoy PolyNome and want to see its continued development please leave a 5 star rating and positive review on the App Store. Click here to view PolyNome on the App Store, tap Reviews, and choose Write a Review.

You’ll feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that you’re really contributing to the improvement of PolyNome.

That’s it. Your 2 minutes can make a huge difference to the future of PolyNome!

If you read this far I want to thank you for your time. I really appreciate your support.

If you want to do other things to help PolyNome you can do things like

  • Share the promo video or PolyNome website on Facebook or Twitter (or whatever else there is)
  • Mention PolyNome on musicians’ forums or Facebook groups.
  • Tell your friends.
  • Mention it to music teachers (there’s a teachers’ resource at https://polynome.net/teachers)

Although Marketing is in my job description it’s not something I’m great at so anything along these lines is a huge help.

Thanks again for your time and support,

Joe
