Create

  1. Create Presets & Playlists for what you want to work on (or download them from the Public Library)
  2. Set Goals for each item. For example:
    • Warm up: 5 mins every day
    • Single Stroke Roll: 10 mins on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
    • Paradiddle Routine: 10 mins every 3 days
    • Hand Speed Workout: 3 hours by July 4th

Achieve

  1. Get Reminders: PolyNome will notify you on Goal days. Tap the notification to jump straight to the Dashboard
  2. Practice: From the Dashboard, tap any item for the day and play! PolyNome automatically logs all your practice and marks the item complete when you’ve reached your time for today.
  3. Track your Progress: Return to the Dashboard to check your goal progress.

Types of Goals

Open Goal: Inspiring regular practice

An open goal is a goal without an end. For example, 20 mins a day, or 2 hours a week. Set open goals for things you want to work on regularly.

Target Time: Knowing when to move on

You can set an optional Target time for Open Goals. The Dashboard will show you your progress towards your target. When you reach the target, the goal will be moved to the Inactive section.

A target (e.g. 20 hours) is a good way to give you a nudge when it’s time to change up your routine.

Deadline Goal

If your aim is to complete X hours of practice by a certain date, use a Deadline Goal. You’ll specify the target time and deadline date, and PolyNome will do the rest.

If you miss a day, the practice time will be increased for the following days to keep you on track. If you do overtime, it’ll be reduced.

Planning Ahead

If you’re planning ahead, you might have things that you want to work on in the future. You can set a Start Date in the goal settings and the goal won’t appear in your Today section until that date is reached.

Take A Break

You can pause a goal if you want to take a break from working on it for a while. It’ll be added to the Inactive section and can be reactivated when you’re ready to revisit it.

Goal Inspiration: Track Anything

You can use PolyNome goals to track anything – not just things you play with a metronome. For example:

Play along to your favorite music

Create a preset with the name of the song (or a general “Playing To Music” preset) and use PolyNome as a timer. You can schedule 20 mins of Playing To Music, for example, into your weekly routine.

Improve Your Band Performance

Make the hardest part of a song one of your practice goals in PolyNome. This forces you to work on the difficult bits instead of the comfortable parts and will help to take your band playing to a higher level.

Schedule a curriculum

If you use Drumeo, Mike’s Lessons, JoeCrabtree.com, or any other music school, you can use PolyNome to schedule and track what you want to work on. Again, if the exercises don’t require playing to a metronome, simply mute the pattern and use PolyNome as a timer and tracker.

Meditation practice

Use the built-in Meditation preset to time your meditation practice. Enter notes for each session about how it went so you can review them in the future.

Running

Doing a Couch to 5k program? You can use PolyNome to cue your run/walk periods and use the metronome to help set a good cadence.
